We receive many questions about checked luggage – from what’s our baggage allowance, to the weight or dimensions permitted and what can or can’t you pack. To help you we have put together this guide to hopefully answer the most frequently asked questions.
The weight luggage allowance in economy class is up to 23 kg. As for the linear dimensions allowed (the sum of your bag’s length, width and depth including wheels, handles and pockets), it must not exceed 158 cms (62 in. approx). If you are travelling short/medium-haul in Business Class, you will be entitled to 2 x 23kg bags.
The baggage allowance for our long-haul destinations varies according the route you are taking. The general baggage allowance is 1 x 23kg for most long-haul destinations, although you may bring up to 2 x 23kg bags if you’re travelling to Bolivia, Colombia and Venezuela. You will find a full breakdown of our baggage allowance per country on our website, click here for more information.
Extra luggage can be purchased in advance through our website or via our call centre. This comes at a cost of £30 per bag for short and medium haul flights, and £100 per bag for long-haul flights.
The maximum weight allowance for a standard hold bag is 23kg, and any additional kg will be counted as excess baggage. No item can weigh more than 32 kg: if you exceed this limit, the additional amount must be packed into a new bag, subject to the payment of the corresponding excess.
Our LITE Fares have been specifically created for passengers who only wish to bring hand luggage on board. But if for some reason you change your mind and wish to check your bags, you can do so through our website, by phone, or at the airport. Our LITE fares are currently available on short, medium and long-haul flights.
Infants (from 0 to 2 years) are entitled to 1 piece of 10Kg in the hold and one of the following items:
Children aged 2-12 are entitled to the same baggage allowance as any adult passenger.
One of the most frequently asked questions when travelling with infants is regarding our policy on taking buggy equipment: you can either check the buggy in with your luggage or use it right up to the aircraft steps. If you opt for the latter, our ground staff will transport it in the hold, and after landing, the pushchair will be available at the aircraft steps.
We will carry your pushchair free of charge, regardless of your baggage allowance: this service comes at no extra cost even if you opt for our Lite Fares (which include hand luggage only).
Televisions, desktop computers and household appliances can all be transported as bulk in the cabin by purchasing an extra seat. It must be packed properly so that it can be firmly secured onto the seat.
Under no circumstances can household appliances be checked in the hold. If dimensions exceed the maximum linear measurements allowed for hand luggage, the item will have to be transported as air cargo.
Musical instruments that are up to 115 cm long (45 in. approx.) may be carried in the hold and are included in your standard baggage allowance at no extra cost (as long as this is the only hand luggage you need to bring).
You can also bring instruments longer than 115cm on board as long as you purchase an extra seat for this purpose, or check it in the hold at an extra cost (£150).
While you can check in online 48 hours in advance (24 hours prior to departure from LGW), you can only drop off your bags at the airport on the same day you will be flying. Most of the airports we operate in count with a drop-off counter, and only a valid boarding pass is required to to check-in baggage. Simply proceed to the dedicated baggage drop off desk or check-in desk, drop off your baggage and proceed to security control. This service is available from 3 hours to 1 hour before the flight’s departure.
I have an Air Europa SUMA Card, what benefits am I entitled to in terms of luggage?
Holders of Air Europa’s SUMA card belonging to our Silver, Gold, Platinum, Elite and Elite Plus, as well as our Business Class Passengers are entitled to check an additional bag in the hold.
You can pack medicines both in your hand luggage (liquids will have to pass through airport security screening) and checked bags. However, we recommend always carrying your medication in your hand luggage with a copy of your prescription, and packing a spare supply of medication in your suitcase or hold luggage.
There are strict rules on what you can and can’t carry in your hold luggage on the aircraft. You can find a full list of the prohibited items here.
