On Monday 26 February we presented our first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, initiating the second phase of our long-haul fleet renewal, which will be completed in 2022 following the progressive incorporation of another fifteen Boeing 787-9s.

With the arrival of this new aeroplane, we have reached the next milestone and have established ourselves as one of the airlines with the youngest, most efficient and most modern fleets in the sector. This aircraft, which uses state-of-the-art technology, is the second member of the Dreamliner family. Just like the Boeing 787-8, it combines the most comfortable interior with exceptional environmental performance, reducing both fuel consumption and emissions by 20%, and the noise impact by 60%.
The new Dreamliner is slightly bigger than the Boeing 787-8 at 63 metres long, and with a wingspan of 60 metres; it also has a greater passenger and cargo capacity. The 787-9 has a total of 333 seats, 30 of which are in the Business cabin. All the seats have an audiovisual entertainment touch screen and a USB port. The Business class seats also recline fully to ensure maximum comfort for the passenger.

The first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with registration EC-MSZ, carries the name of Globalia’s chairman, Juan José Hidalgo. It arrived at Adolfo-Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport on 17 February from the Boeing factory in Charleston, South Carolina. This aircraft will begin operating regularly in March, along with the second Boeing 787-9 that we will receive shortly, covering the Madrid — Buenos Aires — Madrid route.

The next fifteen Boeing 787-9s will be added progressively to the Air Europa long-range fleet. The second will arrive in March; another four in 2019; five in 2020; two in 2021 and the last three during the first half of 2022. With this we will complete the second renewal phase of our transoceanic fleet, which started two years ago with the arrival of the first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

We currently have a total of eight Boeing 787-8s, which we regularly use for routes to Miami, Bogotá, Santo Domingo, Buenos Aires, Havana, Lima and Tel Aviv. Sao Paulo will also join the network of Dreamliner destinations from March.

The modernity, effectiveness, efficiency and advanced technology of the 787-9 is complemented by the best service and products on board. The plane has onboard WiFi and the best range of entertainment. Furthermore, all flights leaving from Madrid will offer new healthy, organic menus, made with products with a certificate of origin. Furthermore, passengers in Business class will have the option to sample the dishes of the prestigious chef Martín Berasategui.

Juan José Hidalgo travelled on the presentation flight between Madrid and Palma de Mallorca, expressing his great satisfaction with the arrival of this aircraft, contributing to Air Europa’s position as a benchmark airline and the top choice between the Americas and Europe.
