What is the Dreamliner effect?

If you follow us on social media, you will have heard us mention the Dreamliner effect many times. You may even have had the opportunity to experience it by flying to Miami, Bogota, Santo Domingo, Havana or Buenos Aires with us. The truth is that there is a “before” and an “after” when you fly on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Do you want to know why? We’ll tell you!

Relaxing lighting

One of the first things you notice as soon as you board a Dreamliner is the interior. All of its features, from the cupboards to the bathrooms, are designed to offer comfort and serenity to the passengers. This incomparable visual experience is down to the LED lighting. This lighting installation means that it is possible to simulate all phases of daylight on long distance flights, helping passengers to adjust their internal clocks, thus reducing tiredness from jet lag upon arrival.

The luggage hold has been designed to make the most of the full height of the fuselage, giving the cabin more width, which creates a more spacious feeling in the interior.

Quiet outside and in

Put your headphones on and you will hardly hear that characteristic hum of the aircraft engines. This is something that our passengers truly value. Different technologies to make the Dreamliner quieter, such as the serrated engine cover that reduces noise by 60% more than conventional aircraft, allow passengers to enjoy more relaxing flights. The aircraft also makes use of certain materials in the interior that reduce the vibrations of the plane itself and an air conditioning system that is felt but not heard. Ultimately, quieter and more relaxing.

Turbulence is minimised

Thanks to the positioning of some special sensors on the Dreamliner, the movement of the aircraft is compensated, meaning that it can fly more smoothly through moderate turbulence. So, if you suffer from motion sickness, your symptoms will be lessened considerably and sometimes you will not suffer any at all.

The plane with the best views

Say good-bye to small windows and hello to large ones. The new windows are 30% larger than on any other commercial aircraft. The windows on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner are not only bigger, but many of you are also fascinated by the way in which they dim. We know, it’s addictive.

Breathe clean air

With the same technologies as used in hospitals, the Boeing 787s have even better air quality due to an innovative air purification method, known as gas filtration. The HEPA filters leave the air free from particles and they effectively eliminate bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Researchers have demonstrated that contaminated air causes many symptoms associated with low humidity: headaches, irritated eyes or dryness. The Dreamliner system reduces these symptoms. Also, its fuselage made from composite materials means it is possible to introduce 10% more humidity into the air, which helps passengers to feel more well-rested and less dehydrated after a long flight.

Arrive more well-rested at a destination

The main reason why we usually arrive feeling tired after a long flight is due to the pressure in the cabin. It means we are inhaling less oxygen with each breath and we end up with a headache and feeling fatigued. Some people describe it as something similar to mountain sickness or altitude sickness. The Dreamliner is pressurised to a maximum level of 6,000 feet, 2,000 feet less than most planes. This allows our bodies to absorb 8% more oxygen into our blood, so passengers experience these symptoms to a lesser degree.

And why aren’t other planes pressurised to this altitude? An aircraft’s fuselage is designed to withstand a certain difference in pressure between the outside and inside. If the difference is too great, the fuselage may expand until it cracks. Aircraft made from aluminium cannot be pressurised to 6,000 feet but the Boeing 787 can be because the fuselage sections are manufactured in one single piece of plastic reinforced with carbon. The composite materials of the plane permit a lower altitude level in the cabin, which makes the journey much more comfortable for passengers. In short, more oxygen and more humidity helps us to arrive feeling fresher, more relaxed, less tired and, of course, less jet-lagged.

Although these are the reasons we give you for why flying on a Dreamliner is different, nothing can compare with actually experiencing it for yourself. Because once you try it, you will never want to fly on another plane again. This is the Dreamliner effect.
