A flight between Madrid and Amsterdam obtains recognition in the category of «Lower CO2 emissions in short haul».
Air Europa has been recognized with the «Lowest CO2 emissions in short haul» award within the awards of the «The Sustainable Flight Challenge», convened for the second consecutive year by the SkyTeam alliance.
Likewise, we have been a finalist in two other categories: «Greater reduction of CO2 emissions on a short-haul flight» and «Lower CO2 emissions for ground operations from its own center».
On this occasion, Air Europa has participated connecting Madrid and Amsterdam with a round trip flight that became the most sustainable of all those operated by the Spanish airline this year. To this end, we used an aircraft of our most representative model, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, optimizing all aspects of the operation, from the use of sustainable SAF fuel to the use of electric vehicles for ground operations, with a view to demonstrating how it is possible to contribute to the decarbonization of air transport and innovate to achieve a better future.
SkyTeam’s «The Sustainable Flight Challenge» is a unique proposition in the industry. It consists of a friendly competition between the companies that make up the alliance and some of its subsidiaries, to contribute to the acceleration of innovation and change in the commercial aviation industry, minimizing the impact on the environment through good practices that can be implemented in daily operations. The challenge, which has had the participation of 22 airlines, established this year a total of 33 different categories with seven main winners, distinguishing between short, medium and long-haul flights. The final awards gala, in which the global winners will be announced, will take place during the first week of October.
In line with the spirit of this challenge, Air Europa has just put its Flight 2030 in the air, a project that brings together a set of 45 initiatives currently underway to continue improving in the direction established by its Strategic Plan 2023-2025. The company continues, in this way, to take firm steps towards sustainability.
